Brief Summary:
When Mary Leicht Oxborrow was 17 years old, she had already experienced more trials than most at her age. Her mom and dad had died; Her parents had established a successful music business, but her father’s illness prior to his death forced them to sell most of it off to pay medical bills; and she joined the Church with her step-family and together they moved Continents. Then at age 17 Apostle Erastus Snow suggested she enter polygamy and marry Joseph Oxborrow. Though Joseph was 52, she accepted and they were married. (Note: In 1849, Joseph Oxborrow was 31 when he married 33-year-old Jennett Potter. They were never able to have any children together.)
After 25 years of marriage, Joseph died. Mary was left with eight children ages: 14 month old, 9, 12, 17, 19, 19, 21 & 22. She moved to Lund, NV with seven of her children and became a mid-wife. She never remarried (spending 57 of her 82 years, or 70%,of her life, single).
