Young Denise McArthur Thrown from a Truck

Doctrines and Principles:
  • Family Prayer.
  • Wholesome Family Activities.

Brief Summary:
When Denise was young, her family headed out on a vacation. Her dad, mom, and one sister were in the truck and Denise and another sister were in the camper that was on the back of the truck. They were headed to the lake and were pulling a boat. During the drive, they were going up a mountain and were behind a slow truck. At the top of the mountain the slow truck motioned for them to pass. They did, but in the process one of the wheels came off their truck. Their was a steep drop off on one side. The truck flipped on it's side and thankfully did not go over the cliff. But as the truck flipped on it's side, Denise was thrown out of the camper and over the cliff. Miraculously, she landed on a ledge. A human chain was formed to bring her back up. One of Denise's sister said the accident happened because they forgot to have family prayer before leaving.

President Thomas S. Monson said, "Family prayer is the greatest deterrent to sin, and hence the most beneficent provider of joy and happiness" ("Hallmarks of a Happy Home," Ensign, Oct. 2001).
